I have been painting for a long time, but I did not do it frequently until a few years ago, in my mid 30s. I am most experienced using acrylic paints on canvas, and this is still my preferred medium. I previously made abstract works without planning what I wanted to do: I would simply start and see where the moment would take me. Right now I am trying to improve my skills, which I do by trying to paint people, scenes, and objects in a way that is easily identifiable by the viewer. I have started using my non-dominant hand for some of my works, and I've really enjoyed it. I am now learning to stretch my own canvas. The first one I did was 188 x 123 cm using a frame and pieces of canvas gifted to me by artists at Valley Artists Rossendale. The canvas pieces were all too small for the frame, so I stitched them together to create one large piece. I reinforced the seams, just in case. I used special pliers and a staple gun to stretch the canvas, and I managed to do this by myself. I then used two layers of gesso to prime it. I used this canvas as a communal canvas for artists and visitors to my studio as part of the Rossendale Art Trail (Spring 2026), and it turned out pretty awesome: ![]() Below you can find a selection of works I made in the past few years: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
